Project Overview
Suppli* aims to simplify the process of finding substitute childcare workers for daycares in Canada. Through extensive research with stakeholders—including daycare staff, administrators, and substitute workers—I uncovered that current solutions operate within isolated "network bubbles," limiting worker availability.

To address this, I designed a digital platform with an automated workflow to connect daycares directly with substitutes, bypassing intermediaries and enabling faster, more reliable replacements.
The challenge
I was approached by the founder to work on Suppli*, a project aimed at creating a tangible solution we could pitch to investors. The idea centered on a gap in the Canadian childcare system: while daycares rely on fixed staff, they often need last-minute replacements for their employees in case of emergencies or sick days, which can be challenging to fill.

Typically, they turn to supply agencies, which connect daycares with freelance workers, though these freelancers are limited to the specific agencies’ networks. This setup sometimes leaves freelance workers without work or results in vacancies not being filled at Daycares.

The challenge is to design a simpler, more efficient digital way for daycares and freelance workers to connect directly, creating a sustainable business model around this need. This system should also be automated and self sufficient with minimal maintenance after deployment.
My process
To gain a solid foundation in the childcare sector, I began with extensive market and background research. I connected with professionals across various roles—freelancers, full-time daycare staff, administrators, and students about to enter the field—to understand the existing systems and challenges.

Through both qualitative and quantitative research methods (surveys and interviews), I gathered insights across all primary stakeholders: daycare staff, centers, and substitute workers. This research identified a critical issue: isolated networks of supply workers and agencies, which made it difficult to find substitutes, especially in emergencies.

With this in mind, I conceptualized a digital solution that would bypass intermediaries, connecting daycares directly with substitute workers through an automated workflow. I outlined essential features to address key pain points, then designed and wire-framed responsive screens in Figma tailored to each stakeholder's needs. Currently, I’m finalizing the design for developer handoff, ensuring the solution is intuitive, efficient, and scalable.
