Project Overview
Second Cycle Furniture was developed as a capstone project at George Brown College, where our team took on the role of business founders to create a viable business plan from the ground up.

Focused on the growing demand for sustainable, temporary furniture solutions, we identified untapped market opportunities through detailed primary and secondary research. Each week brought new phases, from initial setup and project charter development to market analysis, ideation, and final business case delivery.

Following a structured plan, we delivered a comprehensive business package including a Scope of Work, Business Case Report, and Creative Brief, along with weekly progress updates. Our thorough approach enabled us to refine each component—from user personas and pricing strategy to cash flow projections—resulting in a polished, investment-ready presentation by the project’s conclusion.

The Challenge
This capstone project, completed at George Brown College, required our team to create a comprehensive business plan for a new venture with market potential. We acted as both founders and researchers, identifying industry gaps and building a feasible business concept.

Our deliverables included a detailed Scope of Work (objectives, timeline, and requirements), a Business Case Report (business goals, KPIs, market analysis, business model, pricing strategies, timeline, and cash flow projections), and a Creative Brief aimed at guiding future creative professionals with project insights and a structured plan.

Beyond deliverables, managing a diverse team was a core challenge, as we navigated different backgrounds—architecture, interior design, product design, and UX—while leading the group and steering collective decision-making. Although academic, this project demanded a practical, viable business solution within a strict timeline, making it a real-world test of our collaborative and design management skills.
How we Tackled it
Our approach to Second Cycle Furniture was methodical, progressing in phases that closely aligned with each deliverable. We began by establishing a team charter to streamline decision-making, conflict resolution, and communication.

From there, we dove into extensive market research, identifying gaps and potential user demographics. Weekly milestones kept us on track, from refining our problem statement and conducting primary interviews, to analyzing competitor strategies and developing personas.

We utilized ideation techniques, scenario mapping, and market feasibility analysis to build a solid business foundation. By incorporating insights from empathy mapping, user journey mapping, and financial forecasting, we crafted a robust business case, culminating in an investor presentation with clear projections and actionable insights.
